In September 1851 William Winterer made an urgent application for a passport as he expected to sail for Europe in several days (why?). He asked that the passport be sent to William Winterer, care of George Ercty (sp?) at 288 North Third Street Philadelphia. He describes himself as age 36, 5 feet 8 inches, broad forehead, brown eyes, small nose, small mouth, round chin, black hair, healthy complexion, face broad and round.
