He was the son of Sergeant Ebenezer Moody. ®7836 ®763 On 6 August 1810 Mathew [sic] Moody, age 16-25, lived at Greenbush, Rensselaer County, New York with his wife, age 16-25 and one girl under 10 and one boy 10 thru 15 years of age. ®7837 In 1819 he served as a Surgeon’s Mate for the One Hundred and Fifty-fifth Regiment of Infantry of Rensselaer County. He settled as a physician at Sand Lake, New York. ®408 “He was married and living by the Poestenkill River. He was in practice in Poestenkill village for many years, was probably the earliest physician in the town. He was among the founders of the Disciples of Christ in Poestenkill on 2 April 1850. ®7838 In 1857 he had children living in Troy, New York. ®8
“Dr. Matthew Moody was a native of South Hadley, Mass., and a graduate of Amherst College. Shortly after having finished his studies he went to Troy, New York and commenced the study and practice of medicine under the care of Dr. Hale. Having finished the prescribed course, he settled in the town of Sandlake [sic], married a lady who possessed every trait of character and virtue that could make a woman loveable [sic] and beloved, and commenced business on his own account. But just as his circumstances began to look spring-like around him, he was gathered to his fathers at the early age of forty. His memory was mourned and cherished by all who knew him.” ®7828 “In Sand Lake, N.Y., after an illness of three days, Dr. Matthew Moody, aged 40 years and 2 months.” ®7839
