He was age 20, single and lived with his mother and brother Charles in Bayfield in 1930. ®4457He joined the faculty of the University of Oregon Law School in 1935 where he taught for more than 20 years, taking leave for private practice for a few years during World War II when the student body dwindled. The Governor appointed him to the Oregon Supreme Court in 1958 where he served until his retirement in 1976. He was elected Chief Justice by his fellow Justices from 1970 to 1976. He lived in Salem, Oregon on 26 February 1984. ®3984
